Out of the Brew Cover Reveal (and the Songs That Inspired It)

I’ve been working on plotting Out of the Brew this week, and I have come here to tell you a secret about one of my inspirations for this series.

I don’t exactly write to music because no writing would get done if I am up dancing around the house, but music does have a huge influence on me. Each book that I write that has romance (the Psychic Seasons books, the Fate Weaver series, and Laurel Haven Witches) has a soundtrack of sorts.

For instance, A Cold Day in Spell and Heaven or Spell both had the same song that epitomized Lexi’s struggle for me: Oh Lord by In This Moment.

If you just went off to listen to a clip, you’ll realize I’m something of a rock fan, though I listen to a huge variety of music.

Lately, I’ve been into Yungblud. Like, a lot. I know this may surprise some of my readers, and that’s okay. Surprises are good sometimes. In fact, my daughter says I might actually be obsessed, but that’s whatever. Several of his songs have been just perfect for the Laurel Haven Witches series. Change (not the cover of Changes) was one that played deeply into Bella and Gabe’s story, as did Fire which is also one that sparks for Poppy.

Ghosts and Hello Heaven, Hello figure highly for Poppy as well. And then, when I need to get pumped up, I toss on some of the more upbeat stuff.

And yes, I realize how old I am, and that my father told me I would get over my music taste at some point and appreciate his old time country aesthetic by this time in my life. Love you, Daddy, but nope. Not even a little. Not that I have anything against it, but it’s not my thing. I mean, you can throw a little Patsy Cline at me anytime and I’m good…the woman had a golden voice…and who doesn’t love Dolly Parton (Rest her beautiful soul—both of them, really), but anyway.

Poppy’s a little reckless, completely headstrong, and totally determined that she’s come to Laurel Haven to give her life like the rest of the women in her line. Unlike them, Poppy deliberately chose to never tie herself down to a single man or a family.

But Life and Lucas Murphy have other plans, and Poppy’s got some big surprises ahead.

She came to Laurel Haven prepared to die. He refuses to let that be the end of their story.

Poppy Everwood has spent months keeping Luke Murphy exactly where she thinks he belongs: close enough to trust, but far enough away that losing her won’t destroy him.

Luke saved her life once. Since then, friendship and the healing lessons they share have given Poppy more reasons than she cares to admit to want him. But every woman in her bloodline who came to Laurel Haven died there, and Poppy has always expected to meet the same fate. Falling for Luke would mean offering him a future she doesn’t believe she will live long enough to share.

Luke wants far more than friendship, but he knows pushing Poppy is the surest way to make her retreat. So he has been patient, waiting for her to stop hiding behind sharp words and careful boundaries.

He may be done waiting.

With the other three crystals burning, Poppy is determined to find the final one, power it, and help the coven destroy the Shadespawn. She is willing to risk her magic, her blood, and even her life to finish what brought her to Laurel Haven.

Her heart is the one thing she intends to keep out of it.

But the final crystal will reveal itself only when it is ready, and Luke may be the one person stubborn enough to make Poppy question the future she has already accepted.

A friends-to-lovers romance with a prickly fire witch, a lightning-wielding healer who already saved her once, and one last chance to turn a death sentence into a life worth fighting for.
